About Me ...

I have always had a deep rooted passion for food, along with a keen interest in knowing why an ailment made me feel the way I did and what I could do to help myself.

Through my teenage years and early 20’s I spent time at the GP with menstrual problems, acne and stomach issues. I would ask the why’s but was never confident that the answers and prescriptions I was given were right for me. I was prescribed the pill to help my heavy periods, and although it initially helped my menstrual symptoms, I quickly developed severe migraines and blurred vision as a result. I was also diagnosed with IBS but I wasn’t given any advice on how to manage these symptoms. I became tired a lot of the time and was diagnosed with anaemia. I was desperate to become more proactive in looking after my own health.

After having two healthy children, and sadly one miscarriage in my late thirties, I continued to suffer terribly heavy and lengthy periods. Determined to resolve this, In my early forties, I was fortunate to meet a gynecologist who confirmed that I had endometriosis. I was advised to have a hysterectomy, but I wasn’t convinced that surgery was the right path - I still wanted to find out the why!

My thirst for knowledge drew me to study at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. During this time I had several consultations with a NTP who worked with me to alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis by helping improve my gut health, food choices and hormone imbalances. This proved life changing! It was truly amazing, I felt so much better, I lost weight, my menstrual cycle improved and I had so much energy which I had not known in my life before. I didn’t realise I suffered from foggy brain and lethargy until I no longer experienced these symptoms. I was in my forties and yet, I felt younger and fitter than I did in my twenties.

The signs were always there through my teenage years, but it was only when I looked back after gaining the knowledge as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner that allowed me to make those connections. It’s been such an enlightening experience. It’s empowering when you know the why and how to help yourself make informed food and lifestyle choices that gives you the power to become the very best version of yourself.
